Eleanor Marie Volpe of Moosic passed away Saturday peacefully at home with her loving family by her side.
Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Paul and Rose Gambucci Emiliani and wife of the late Charles J. Volpe, who preceded her in death in 1988. She was a lifelong resident of Scranton and Moosic. She also lived part of the year in Naples, Florida, which she loved very much. She attended Scranton Central High School and received a bachelor’s degree in education at Marywood College.
She spent many years working at the family business, Volpe Insurance Agency, and took over the business at her husband’s passing. She spent over twenty years as the president, running the business and kept it flourishing in a difficult time.
Ellie’s greatest joy came from spending time with her family. She delighted in hosting her family on the holidays and took everyone out for their individual birthdays. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. To them she was known as “Grandma” and “Gi-Gi.” She also enjoyed watching and playing golf and playing Mah Jongg with her friends. Movie-going was another cherished pastime of hers at the Cinemark theaters along with going to lunch with her college friends, Roseanne Henzes and Joyce Rittenhouse.
She was a woman of great faith and a devout Catholic who attended Mass regularly throughout her life. She had a special devotion to St. Ann.
Eleanor was a volunteer at the Hospice of the Sacred Heart and a member of the 9-Hole Women’s Golf Association at Glenmaura Country Club.
She was also preceded in death by her brother, John Emiliani; her sister, Marjorie Emiliani Domiano; and former son-in-law, Andrew S. Quinn.
She is survived by her four children, Attorney Charles and wife, Ellen; Debra Quinn, Lori Answini; and Bonnie Koregaokar and husband, Mohesh; her beloved grandchildren, Jennifer Volpe Wolff and husband, Danny; Charles III and girlfriend, Mary Grace Potelunas; John Volpe; Maura Quinn Langan and husband, Patrick; Stephanie Quinn, Melissa Becker, Michael Answini, Cara Answini, Alexa Abdalla and Tyra Abdalla; and her great-grandchildren, Scarlett, Guinevere and Cordelia Wolff.
She is also survived by brothers, Paul Emiliani and wife, Eileen; Emil Emiliani and wife, Ann; Jack Emiliani and wife, Judy; sisters, Louise Vinskofski and husband, John; Perina Janeski and husband, Leonard; Ann Pesca and husband, Gerard; and sister-in-law, Joan Emiliani; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A special thank you to all of the nurses of Hospice of the Sacred Heart and the caregivers of the Griswold and Sinclair agencies, especially Kathy along with her doctors, Edward J. Dzielak and William J. Heim, and their medical staff.
The funeral will be conducted on Wednesday with Mass of Christian Burial at 1:30 p.m. in the St. John Neuman Parish (Nativity of Our Lord Church), 633 Orchard St., Scranton. Entombment will follow at Cathedral Cemetery Mausoleum.
