Jason P. McGoff, 35, of Scranton, died Saturday July 7, 2018 after a long battle with mental illness.
Jason was born in Scranton and was the son of James McGoff and the late Denise Bonno McGoff. He attended Bishop O’Hara High School and proudly served in the United States Army National Guard with the 1/109 Infantry. He attained the rank of Sergeant and served during Operation Enduring Freedom. He was employed as an EMT for the Commonwealth Health Emergency Medical Services where he loved to work.
Jason was proud of his Irish heritage and loved spending time with his family. Weekends were spent together watching Notre Dame football on Saturdays and Miami Dolphins on Sundays. He enjoyed spending time out outdoors, going for rides on his motorcycle, was an expert fisherman, and had a passion for playing the guitar.
Also surviving are son Michael “Little Bear” McGoff; companion Jessica Krochta and Butch the family dog, Throop; sisters Jennifer King and husband Gregory, Scranton, Beth Balmer and husband Shawn, Olyphant; brothers Thomas and companion Danielle DeMatteo, Jefferson Township, Robert and companion Sarah Williams, Dunmore, and Craig, Scranton; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by brother James McGoff; paternal grandparents Thomas and Nora McGoff; maternal grandparents Carl and Genevieve Bonno.
A blessing service will be conducted Friday at 7 pm in the Solfanelli-Fiorillo Funeral Home Inc., 1030 N. Main Ave. Scranton. Friends and family may pay their respects Friday from 4 pm until service time. Interment in Cathedral Cemetery will be private at the convenience of the family.
